Determination and Passion

Our partnership with International Medical Response (IMR) began in 2019 with the goal of bringing medical care to the remote rural community of Destra, Haiti. IMR brought a team to provide a community health clinic and train local health agents. As part of our continued partnership, we are excited that IMR is continuing to support a GOALS alumna (Betina) in her dream of becoming a nurse by sponsoring her in nursing school.

Betina is now in her fourth and final year of nursing school and we are so proud of all of her hard work plus we are extremely grateful to IMR for making this dream happen for her.

"International Medical Response is proud and happy to support Bettina’s nursing education so she is able to achieve her professional and personal goals. She has shown a genuine interest in providing care not only for her patients, but to her community as a whole. We will be there as she needs us to get her through her journey.”

Betina shares some thoughts on her journey –

“I felt I ended the third year on a strong note, it's the first year I can say I barely had any problems with the school and my grades. The whole year was very smooth, and I enjoyed every moment of it.

One of my greatest strengths is building a bonding relationship with the patient. The experience I am gaining is so valuable. Through my internship I experienced so many different types of medical cases that I was not used to seeing. Going through this internship experience I feel that I am well prepared to be able to work in any type of hospital because I've learned so much.

I look forward to finishing the nursing program as one of the top graduates in my class. All I do is think about nursing. It is a profession that I am truly passionate about and I want to be the best. I want to be known as one of the best nurses in Haiti. I'm well aware of what it's going to take to be one of the best ever, lots of hard work and determination.

Luckily for me, GOALS has been showing me since a child the importance of dedication and being consistent. So, I'm very confident that I will succeed and make everyone at GOALS and all of the people who supported me, including IMR, very proud that they gave me this blessed opportunity to better myself and the people in my community.”

Bettina joined GOALS in 2017 and spent 7 years in our program before she became an alumna.
